It is hailed as a "must-win international mathematics competition for young students" and a crucial academic qualification for international university admissions.
The SASMO, organized by the Singapore International Mathematics Competition Centre (SIMCC), is one of the largest and most influential mathematics competitions in Asia, attracting students from over 40 countries and regions worldwide. Its certificates are recognized by top international universities; gold medalists can see a nearly 30% increase in their acceptance rate for STEM fields at top universities like MIT and Oxford. The National University of Singapore and other institutions also list it as a priority admission criterion for STEM majors. The competition offers a wide range of awards, with bronze medalists and above qualifying them for higher-level international competitions such as SIMOC and IJMO, thus preparing them for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
