MidMCM (Middle School Mathematical Modeling Challenge) is an international academic event launched in 2021 by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP). It is designed for middle school students in grades 7-9 and under 14 and a half years old and is an extension of the HiMCM high school mathematical modeling competition.
The activity requires teams of 2-4 students from the same school, each with a mentor. Within 14 days, they will solve a real-world problem using mathematical modeling and programming tools, focusing on a specific "C" problem, and submit an English paper of no more than 25 pages. A new AI usage report requirement will be added in 2025. Awards range from a Grand Prize to a Participation Prize, with the Grand Prize awarded to only 11 out of 30 students globally. The competition is supported by authoritative institutions such as the US National Science Foundation, and its experience and awards are recognized by top international universities, effectively cultivating students' interdisciplinary collaboration and problem-solving abilities.
