The Physics Bowl is a high school physics competition organized by the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). It is a highly influential high school physics competition in the United States, with approximately 10,000 American students participating annually, along with over 500 prestigious high schools from 11 other countries. ASDAN China introduced the competition to China in 2015, naming it the "Physics Cup" American High School Physics Thinking Challenge in accordance with relevant policies and requirements of the Ministry of Education. According to official data and award statistics released by ASDAN China, the number of participating schools and students has been increasing year by year.
The Physics Bowl, hosted by the prestigious American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), attracts participants from over 30 countries worldwide and is recognized by top institutions including Ivy League universities and the UK's G5 universities. Data shows that over 37% of the top 100 global competitors gain admission to the top 30 U.S. universities, and MIT's application system specifically inquires about participation in the competition. Its content overlaps significantly with AP and IB curricula, meaning preparation simultaneously boosts academic performance. The competition features two divisions with distinct award tiers and serves as an excellent stepping stone to advanced contests like the BPhO. For students applying to STEM programs, it is a core asset for enhancing academic credentials.
